“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.”
– St. Augustine
We feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to tour around Europe while we’re living in our host nation of Germany. It is wonderful to have the ability to visit countries on a long weekend with quick flights, trains, and even driving.
Some of these countries we might never have planned to visit from the US. It’s certainly fun to go to a country with very few expectations and be pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the scenery is, or how friendly the people are. We’ve experienced exceptional hospitality in Istanbul, drank amazing wines in Slovakia, and love everything about Ireland.🍀

The best online travel sites we have found for organizing experiences around Europe are both Expedia and Trip Advisor. We use these sites to find hotels, tours, and unique restaurants. Reviews from travelers around the world are above all the most helpful for knowing what to expect from each vendor’s offering.
Experiencing an Olive Grove Tour with Tastings in Tuscany, or eating a fabulous dinner in a wine cellar in Bratislava are just two examples that we would not have found on our own.

We received sound advice from a friend here, another expat, when we first arrived. She said, “Travel whenever you can, no matter how tired you are, or how short the trip, keep traveling.” We have taken this to heart. Taking international trips at the rate of one a month makes you learn quickly to be efficient and organized in both planning and packing. There are also small but key things that make a trip go smoothly. We share what we’ve learned to do from experience so that each journey is a wonderful adventure.
