We visited the wonderful city of London in April this year to go to a family wedding. Exploring London is magical any time of the year, for any reason. It was so special to also add in attending a big family event.

We stayed one night in Holborn, to meet up with a friend who is studying abroad for a few years. We had a wonderful dinner catching up at The Jack Horner over a Guinness, a red beer, a blond beer, and excellent meat pies.

The next day we had time to explore before we headed to our next hotel for the wedding. London is such a walkable city, we strolled around seeing so many sights just over one morning. After a good start with the Big English Breakfast, we strolled through the city neighborhoods. We had a nice surprise when we turned a corner to find the dome of the amazing St. Paul’s Cathedral. We continued on to Borough Market, a historic market housed under bridges and among warehouses which have been converted to shops and restaurants. It is a cool, hip, popular market, selling high-quality foods, with a very unique charm.

Wandering on, we went back across Tower Bridge, to the Tower of London, one of our favorite sights. After a good walk along the Thames River, we reached Covent Garden. Another favorite, with a pedestrian area with markets, restaurants, and theaters. Throughout our walk, Rob stopped to photograph many unique statues along the way, fascinating symbols of this city.

Next, we were on to our next hotel, the Crown and Greyhound, an Inn and Pub in South London. We were immediately welcomed by Rob’s extended family, including us as if we were their closest family. Since we are all usually an ocean apart, we don’t see these family members often, and some we were meeting for the first time. We had a most wonderful time at the wedding, making new family-friends and wonderful memories. For all the frustrations we had at this point with living in Germany, being able to attend this wedding made it all worth it. 🤗

Cheers!
