Once in Venice, we saw a real treasure that would be amazing to own. We didn’t buy it at the time, so we thought we would go back and try to find it again. The narrow streets of Venice are full of special finds, from ancient parchment journals and books, inkstands and pens, lion statues, masks, old maps, and all the shoe and purse shops anyone could want.

It’s hard not to get lost, all the twists and turns and crossing small bridges can make you lose all sense of direction. Some of the narrow passageways dead end into residences. Our treasure hunting in Venice included trying to find the shop again, only knowing it by sight, from a year ago.

At last, after endless trekking, we finally ended up in the right spot. In one of the narrow crowded lanes leading off of St. Mark’s Square, there is a small shop full of old books and unique items. Our treasure is one of these unique items in particular, an ancient wooden box about the size of a briefcase. Well polished and cared for, you can still tell it is very old. Inside, set in a dark colored velvet backing, is a revolver, a crucifix, silver bullets, a rosary, and a small vial of holy water. It is a Vampire Hunting Kit!
Unfortunately, the owner had closed his shop for the whole weekend during our visit and we were not able to purchase it.😳

We love Venice. The crowds of visitors are intense during the day, as the narrow streets and bridges don’t allow for much room. But when you stay overnight, as soon as evening hits, and the day visitors leave, the streets clear out. You can have many a small bridge to yourself, and there are so many wonderful choices of restaurants for dinner.

We enjoyed our treasure hunting in Venice, and now we have the name of the store. So, the quest moves forward. To Be Continued!

Salute!

Oh well, not much use for vampire hunting kits. Best to save your money. When we were in Venice, we rode the gondola under the Bridge of Sighs. Beautiful city!

Ooh, I love Venice so much! And even I’m not much of a shopper – quite opposite, I tend to buy my shoes and bags from Venice.
I also had a similar experience than yours. I saw beautiful sandals on a shop window and walked past them day by day, but the shop remained closed. I’d almost given up when one day there was man opening the door. I rushed inside right after him telling that I want to buy those shoes.
He said that it was the only pair but I didn’t mind buying the sample pair. I’m wearing size 36,5 anyway so I knew they’d fit. He took sandals from the window and tried them on my feet. He looked like I was out of a children’s book as the sandals fit perfectly.
Those sandals traveled around the world for a decade with me.-
Hi Tanya,
