USA Wrestling held their pre-Worlds camp in Germany last week, before heading to Serbia for World Championships. As in years past, Ramstein Air Force Base hosted the Men’s Freestyle team for their acclimation camp. Being on the continent helps the athletes and coaches adjust to the new time zone, +6 hours from east coast USA.
Ramstein AFB and the High School Wresting Team do an amazing job hosting, welcoming, and coordinating living and training accommodations with all the comforts of home for the team.
With the team being so close, we took the drive to visit the coaching staff and athletes, and lend a hand with preparations. It was great to see everyone we know, meet new team members, and spend some time shopping at the big Exchange and Commissary.
Not far off base, in the city of Ramstein, is Big Emma’s, a local restaurant that is a team favorite. Both the quality of the food, and the friendliness of the staff, are outstanding.
